Defamation & Harassment

Legal action against false statements, harassment, and online harm in Singapore.

Defamation. Harassment. Online Harm. Strategic Action.

Reputational attacks can escalate rapidly. False statements, coordinated online campaigns, harassment, doxxing, and impersonation can cause serious personal, professional, and commercial harm if not addressed decisively.

Tanglin Law advises individuals, founders, professionals, businesses, and organisations in Singapore on managing, containing, and resolving reputational harm. We act for both those who have been targeted, and those facing allegations, with a clear focus on strategy, speed, and outcomes.

When should you speak to a lawyer immediately?

You should seek advice early if you are facing any of the following:

  • False or misleading statements published online or offline
  • Social media smear posts, viral allegations, or coordinated attacks
  • Harassment, threats, stalking, or intimidation
  • Doxxing or publication of private or sensitive personal information
  • Impersonation or fake accounts
  • False reviews or ratings affecting your business or professional standing
  • Allegations that may escalate into regulatory, employment, or criminal issues

Early legal intervention can prevent evidence loss, limit amplification, and preserve your strategic options.

Our approach

01. Strategic triage

We assess the facts quickly and identify:

  • What is legally actionable and what is not
  • The most effective route to stop the harm
  • Whether the objective is removal, correction, restraint, damages, or defence
02. Containment and control

We focus on limiting further damage by:

  • Preserving evidence properly
  • Advising on silence versus response
  • Deploying proportionate legal and platform-based measures
03. Enforcement or defence

Depending on your position and objectives, we pursue or defend:

  • Negotiated resolutions and undertakings
  • Court applications and civil claims
  • Statutory relief and coordinated escalation strategies
  • Parallel civil, regulatory, and criminal considerations where relevant

Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act (OSRA)

Singapore’s Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025 introduces a framework aimed at faster relief and clearer accountability for online harms, supported by an Online Safety Commission and new statutory pathways.

The Online Safety Commission began operations on 29 June 2026, and specified statutory tort provisions under the Act took effect on the same date. The Commission’s first phase covers five categories of online harm: online harassment including online sexual harassment, intimate image abuse, image-based child abuse, doxxing, and online stalking. The remaining categories are being brought into force progressively.

We advise clients on:

  • Whether and how OSRA mechanisms may apply to their situation
  • Structuring evidence and narratives for effective reporting and escalation
  • Coordinating OSRA pathways with defamation and harassment strategies to ensure consistency and avoid unintended consequences
